Fehn Ship Management Calls Latvian Flag 'Interesting Alternative'

Representatives from Fehn Ship Management and the Latvian Maritime Authority met last week, with discussions leading to the ship management company deciding to transfer at least two vessels to the Latvian flag over the next few months.

Fehn reports:

Latvian Flag is an Interesting Alternative

Mar 25, 2014 - Fehn Ship Management recently hosted a meeting with representatives of the Latvian Maritime Authority and German shipping companies. During their two day tour to Leer the team of Janis Krastins, Director of the Maritime Administration of Latvia, had the chance to present the Latvian flag to about 10 shipping companies as well as representatives from classification societies.

"Both sides found the meetings extremely useful“, says Matthias Hesse, Managing Director of Fehn Ship Management. "We on the shipping side heard a lot of the advantages to bring our vessels under Latvian flag and our guests had the chance to learn first hand the requirements and wishes of German shipping companies." As a consequence of this meeting Fehn Ship Management has decided to bring at least two of its vessels under Latvian flag in the next months. "We think the Latvian flag is an interesting alternative," says Manfred Müller, Managing Director of Fehn Ship Management and head of EMS-Fehn-Group.

The meeting had been initiated by the Latvian Crewing company BTSC, Fehn Ship Management and Northwest Crewing. All three companies are members of EMS-Fehn-Group and work closely together in ship management and crewing matters. Fehn Ship Management received unanimous praise both for the initiative and the organization of this meeting which took place in the EMS-Fehn-Group office building in Leer.

The presence of representatives of the Latvian Maritime Authority in Leer is to be seen as an upbeat for more activities. Latvia will take over the presidency of the EU in January 2015 and take the opportunity to promote the opportunities the country offers for German shipping companies. With BTSC (Baltic Transocean Shipping & Crewing SIA) in Riga EMS-Fehn-Group has already intensive experience as crewing agency and partner for Latvian seafarers as well as German shipping companies.
