Advisory re MMSI numbers from the US Federal Communications Commission

An advisory issued by the FCC reminds the industry of the importance of the Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) number programed into shipboard communication equipment and more importantly into any Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) onboard a vessel.
