Jamaica's Up and Coming Yacht Registry

The superyacht industry has identified Jamaica as rising flag choice for owners.

The registry has streamlined its tax structure and consulted International Yacht Bureau Captain Jake DesVergers to make registration more efficient.

The island is in a position to benefit from historical ties to the United Kingdom while having the autonomy to develop their own interpretations of British Common Law.

DesVergers explains: "Jamaica can be selective in using the best practices of the yachting world, while eliminating any negative or bureaucratic actions that may hinder an efficient programme."

"This is most easily seen in their acceptance of the MCA’s Large Yacht Code, but their own national interpretation allows well-built unclassed yachts the opportunity to achieve commercial certification for charter.

The flag offers Private, Private Charter, and Commercial registrations, and adapts its requirements based on yacht and crew size. It also allows for smooth transition from private to commercial registration and does not require a corporate registration in Jamaica.

It seems that the registry is doing all the right things.
