Bermuda made history recently and came out with a statement saying that they no longer allow LGBT marriages. Bermuda had only just legalized same- sex marriage in May 2017, so this was a very fast turn around. This applies to any ship flying the Bermuda flag as well.

Bermuda retains status as global captive insurance leader

Hamilton, Bermuda, February 13, 2017 - Bermuda remains the world leader in the captive insurance industry based on 2016 statistics released by Bermuda Monetary Authority today, said the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA). Year-end BMA figures indicate Bermuda had 776 active captive licences on its register.

Bermuda Ship Registry Receives ‘Favoured’ Status from China

On 16 January, it was announced that Bermuda’s ship registry had been granted ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status from China.

Bermuda received the status as part of an existing UK/China agreement, which will offer several advantages to the Island’s maritime industry.

Bermuda Ship Registry secures fourteen commercial Team Tankers vessels

Earlier in 2015, Team Tankers International simultaneously registered of its vessels with the Bermuda Shipping Registry, according to a news source in Bermuda.  There were several possible explanations for why Team Tankers chose Bermuda, most all of which attest to the positive and reputable performance of Bermuda’s Department of Maritime Administration (DMA):
