IMO Secretary-General seeks UN support over "keyworker" designation for seafarers

Source: IMO - IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim has asked the United Nations system agencies to support IMO in its request to governments to declare seafarers, port personnel and other crucial maritime workers as key personnel. Mr. Lim made the plea during a virtual meeting (1 April) with other UN chiefs and the UN Secretary-General.

The Outlaw Sea - Will Open Registers Come Under Additional Scrutiny

A recent series of articles in the New York Times (including 2 front page above the fold!) which criticizes the organizations for lax enforcement of the "genuine link" requirement in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It may just irritate them enough to take another look at strengthening the requirement.
