The Government of Vanuatu has successfully established a major base for the registration of foreign ships.

Incentives

·        The registry personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when needed;
All details of vessel registration are handled through the central registry office in New York City;

A recent series of articles in the New York Times (including 2 front page above the fold!) which criticizes the organizations for lax enforcement of the "genuine link" requirement in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It may just irritate them enough to take another look at strengthening the requirement.

Regulatory issues have been at the forefront of dialogue at CMA Shipping 2014, which kicked off yesterday.
